Warmer weather is just around the corner. Here are some tips to help you save water and money, plus garden smarter!
Water Wise Tips
- A heavier soaking 2-3 times a week in hot weather is more effective than daily light watering.
- Improve your soil with lots of organic matter to slow down transpiration.
- Mulch well. It reduces evaporation and weeds!
- Use soaker hoses or install a drip irrigation system to minimize evaporation loss.
- Water early in the morning or late in the evening.
- Group plants together with similar watering needs.
- Reduce the size of your lawn. Turf grass is extremely water and labor intensive.
- Prune. Pruning strengthens plants and makes them less water-dependent.
- Container plants need daily watering and good drainage. Water storing granules are helpful.
